A newly renovated cottage in the grounds of a country house near Abergavenny & the beautiful Black Mountains - featured in Conde Nast Traveller's Best Airbnbs in the UK. Stylishly designed, it retains the stone walls, beams & arched windows of the coach house it once was. There's a well-equipped kitchen, a cosy wood burner (with a basket of logs & kindling), a smart TV, wifi, lots of books, 100% cotton bed linen, fluffy cotton towels & individual bathroom products. Outside, the kitchen garden is a great place to chill & there's also a courtyard with a table & chairs right next to the cottage.
Court Cottage was once part of the stable yard of the country house to which it belongs. We have recently refurbished it - turning it into a lovely cottage that retains the original roof beams, stone walls, arched windows and doors.
Outside, there is plenty of private space - including a pretty courtyard next to the main house, with a table and chairs. Guests can also use the South facing kitchen garden - where there's a bench that's a great place to read a book or take in the views of rolling countryside. There's space to store bikes under cover and an outside tap to wash down bikes, boots and wellies.
Inside, you walk straight into the sitting room, which is open to the roof eaves. It has two comfy sofas piled with cushions, a wood burner for chillier days, a digital TV & DVD player, a selection of board games and lots of books & local guides.
Through the old pine double doors is the cosy bedroom, with its large arched window and beamed ceiling. It has a king size bed with pure cotton bed linen and a blanket woven from local wool. The bedroom has plenty of hanging space and a chest of drawers (and lots of room under the bed for suitcases etc). There's a digital radio on one of the bedside tables, usb plug sockets and also a hair dryer.
Next door is the stylish en-suite bathroom, with a roll-top bath and separate shower. White cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and shower gel are provided. There's a socket for electric toothbrushes or shavers.
The kitchen leads off the sitting room. It has painted cupboards and a marble worktop, together with a kitchen table for two. There are two usb sockets near the table, making it perfect for working as well as eating. A large antique pine storage cupboard houses everything you'll need to cook up a feast (or microwave a ready meal...). There is a microwave, induction hob & oven, fridge with ice box, dishwasher and washing machine. Tea, instant coffee and sugar are provided - and there's also a cafetiere if you're a real coffee aficionado. There’s also salt & pepper and olive oil.
We also provide a clothes drying rack, iron and ironing board as well as tea towels, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid.
There is wifi throughout the cottage.
There is central heating throughout & we also provide a first basket of logs & kindling for the wood burner.
Court Cottage is in the grounds of a country house which lies on the edge of the village of Llanvapley. You'll come up the shared drive and park in a large shared parking area. Thereafter, you're in your own space - walking through an arched gate into a private courtyard where the cottage is situated. The kitchen garden, with views over rolling countryside, is also available to guests. The cottage is close to the main house, but is entirely separate.
We live in the main house so we are usually available if guests need us. Otherwise, we'll leave you to enjoy your own privacy. If we aren't at home, we're always contactable by text, phone or email (bearing in mind that mobile reception can be a bit patchy!).
There is information in the cottage about WiFi, heating, etc as well as ideas for places to eat, things to do etc.
Abergavenny, renowned both for its Food Festival and as the gateway to the Brecon Beacons & Black Mountains, is 4 miles away. There you'll find local shops, a really good butcher and bakery, as well as a great local cinema and some of the best restaurants in Wales. For wonderful walks & cycling, you're spoilt for choice: the Sugar Loaf & Skirrid mountains are very close by, as is the famous Offas Dyke Path.
We are on the edge of a small village. There’s a pub but no shop, so you really do need a car.
We can put you in touch with reliable local taxi companies if you need transport to restaurants or to/from Abergavenny station.
We have a friendly whippet who you may see wandering around. But I'm afraid we don't allow pets in the cottage.
Please, no smoking in the cottage.
Mobile reception can be patchy.
